Illescas is a municipality located in the province of Toledo, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. According to the 2006 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 15830 inhabitants.
The archaeological remains that were found in Illescas’ zone indicates that it was poblated from the prehistoric age. His foundation was in 2621 b.C. Certain data were obtained from the excavations made in ``yacimiento de el Cerrón´´. Where there was a celtiberian town from the late second century to V C. In 1154 Alfonso VII gave a town charter and 4 years later the village was again part of ``Señorio arzobispal´´ to 1575. The playground for kings, it lost the royal favor because of the War of the Communities where Francisco de Guzman was an army captain commoner company of Juan de Padilla. The arrival of the railway were in 1876.
-Arco de Ugena: It is the last part of the old “Puerta de Ugena”, It was a door made of wood. The wall had five doors and the “Arco de Ugena” is the last one. It is from a Mudejar style, we suppose that it was built in the XI century, when Alfonso VI wanted to wall the village.
-Convento de la Concepción de la Madre de Dios: It was built in 1514 by the Cardenal Cisneros . The first mother superior, Ines de la Concepcion, was the Cisnero’s cousin.
-Hospital Nuestra Señora de la Caridad: It was built between XVI and XVII. centuries .
-Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad: It was built in 1500, there are five Greco’s paints they are: La Caridad, San Ildefonso, La Coronacion de la Virgen, La Natividad and La Anunciacion.
- Iglesia parroquial and torre mudéjar: in 1920 was declared nacional monument.
- Calle Real: It had many inns and big houses. It was the place that had most people.
- Plaza de las Cadenas: It is in front of the “Iglesia de la Caridad”, there is a elm of 500 years.
-Olmo del Milagro: It had 500 years in this elm Francisca’s de la Cruz donkey was placed .
Geography
The village is located in a spacious plain, on the way from Madrid to Toledo. It belongs to the region of La Sagra and in the North it borders with Casarrubuelos, Cubas de la Sagra, Torrejón de la Calzada and Torrejón de Velasco. In the East it borders with Yeles and the house of Campsota. In the South it borders with Numancia de la Sagra. And in the west it borders with Cedillo del Condado, El Viso de San Juan, Ugena, Carranque and the West of Toledo.
